Primary Care

Geriatric Care

Geriatric medicine is a specialized area of healthcare dedicated to the unique needs of older adults, those aged 65 and above. Our goal is to enhance health, independence, and quality of life by addressing the complex challenges of aging. We manage a variety of chronic conditions, cognitive decline, and functional limitations that are common in this population. Through comprehensive assessments, we consider the physical, mental, and social factors impacting each patient's well-being, allowing us to create personalized care plans. These plans include educating both patients and their caregivers on how to navigate health challenges and make informed healthcare decisions.

Advanced Wound Care

Treating non-healing wounds necessitates a thorough and comprehensive strategy. This involves a deep understanding of the underlying causes of the wounds, as well as the patient's overall health and well-being. Utilizing advanced dressings, topical therapies, negative pressure wound therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and occasionally surgical interventions can significantly improve wound healing, prevent infections, and reduce complications. We treat a variety of wounds, including pressure injuries, venous and arterial ulcers, surgical wounds, burns, abscesses, and conditions like vasculitis.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen is a medical treatment in which the patient breathes pure oxygen under increased pressure. It is administered in a single person chamber and is the treatment for many medical and surgical conditions. We provide Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for suitable wounds, using oxygen under pressure (2-3 times normal atmospheric pressure) to boost the body’s healing process. This therapy increases oxygen delivery to tissues and bloodstream, promoting new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) and enhancing the body’s ability to combat infection, leading to faster and more effective healing.

Meet Dr. Edith Akintokunbo

Dr. Akintokunbo is a board certified family practice and geriatric physician. She earned her Medical Degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey and completed her residency thereafter at Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program, Sugar Land. She completed a Geriatric Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine along with an academic Fellowship with emphasis on wound care.
